מַרְחִיקִין אֶת הַמִּשְׁרָה מִן הַיָּרָק, וְאֶת הַכְּרֵשִׁין מִן הַבְּצָלִים, וְאֶת הַחַרְדָּל מִן הַדְּבוֹרִים. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי מַתִּיר בַּחַרְדָּל:
Um mishrah [um lugar onde o linho está encharcado, que estraga os verdes próximos] está distanciado dos verdes e o alho-poró (distanciado) das cebolas [os alho-porros são prejudiciais às cebolas próximas] e mostarda (distanciada) de abelhas, [mostarda estragando mel e tornando-a afiada]. R. Yossi permite com mostarda, [pois ele pode lhe dizer: "Antes que você me diga para remover minha mostarda de suas abelhas, remova suas abelhas de minha mostarda! Pois elas vêm e comem minhas flores de mostarda!" A halachá está de acordo com R. Yossi.]

This simple mishnah lists things that will spoil other things if kept near them and therefore must be distanced from them. [Note: part of the processing of flax, a major material for clothing, was soaking it in water].
